I just got a letter from Utah County stating that they’ve decided to raise my taxes quite a bit as a result of a claimed 43% appreciation in value over the past year. I knew Utah had gone up in Value, but I think I’m going to dispute a 43% increase in appraised value. In this County, one must first call to make an appointment, so I’ve got to do that today.

That’s just wrong. I’ve had to fight our county guys off each year because they use the top-comp’s for an area’s price/sq ft. to estimate the market. How many houses sell for the top price/sq ft? Just that one house. The rest are in the median generally.

A yearly fight can become a nuisance. Maybe there is something to be said for a set rate tax based on property purchase price.
